Revolutions

A revolution is defined as an overthrow or replacement of a government or political system by the people governed.  Our world has a history of revolutions, in countries both big and small.  Revolutions happened in the past, such as the one in our country, and are still happening today.
Why do groups of people feel a revolution is necessary?  What are they hoping to accomplish?  What situations might be present in their current government or political system that would lead citizens to a revolution?

Please write down your thoughts about revolutions, answering the questions posed above.  Then, respond to at least one classmates post, either in agreement or disagreement.  State your reasons for your response.

Don't forget your initials!  Use complete sentences and proper capitalization and punctuation.  Proofread before posting!

  1. I think that people/groups of people feel a revolution is necessary because of the way they are being treated, because their belief in their rights, maybe even for land. They are maybe acting the way they do about the situation so that they can accomplish a dream or earn more/some respect. The taxes may rise or the citizens want justice. That is my understanding of a Revolution.

  2. I think people think a revolution is necessary because in their mind it is the only way to handle governmental issues. What they are trying to accomplish is winning the revolution to get what they think is right to happen. For example how the colonists did not think all the taxes were fair so they fought to get their way. This is is also an example of what they might be having trouble with in their government.

  3. I think that people had revelotions because of the land and because the were treated unfairly. I think that what they are trying to accomplish is to earn their freedom and the right to be able to do whatever they wanted to do. I would think that the situations that caused people to have revelotions are that people were just losing alot of land and they wanted to rule over everybody and be the boss of everyone. That's what i think. C.N.

  4. I think that other people a revelution is necassary because they think "ok if you dont treat us right or with respect we deserve, you have no right to rule". For example the french revelution they did not treat the people correctly by letting them starve half to death they decided "it's time for a new ruler. What you were trying to accomplish was kicking the disrespectful leaders out of leadership (trying to overthrow there leader)

    2. I agree with you, J.D.K. I think you stated your opinion nicely. I also liked how you used the French Revolution as an example. I think the quote was a good way to express the way you viewed the concept.

  5. People believe a revolution is necessary because they don't like something in the government or tax rates. They are hoping to accomplish freedom. I think one of the current political system is losing/lost jobs will make people want to start a revolution because a lot of people are either losing their jobs or have lost their jobs to technology.

  6. PB, I agree that people did not like tax rates because back then they made up weird reasons for laws like if you live in a house you have to pay 200 dollars to the king . Thats why agree that tax rates back then was unnecessary. LT

  7. I believe certain groups of people think a revolution is necessary. I think they are trying to accomplish being heard by their government through a revolution because they do not feel like they are being heard and/or treated fairly. As for now, we in America feel under stress for things like Jobs, high gas prices, increases in taxes and medical care. People feel frustrated and feel like they are getting poorer and could cause a revolution. LT

  9. i believe that revolution was very neseserry because people couldn't handle the taxes or the unfair laws and if they didn't start the revolution they could of died R.V

    1. I A.P agree with R.V because if they didn't start a revalution they would either die or be stuck with high taxes for a long long time.

  10. I think that people start revolutions for the same reason they would start a boycott. Like the Revolutionary War, the patriots were fighting for there freedom. Before the patriots started the war, they boycotted certain things to gain their freedom. ( Such as glass that was taxed, they stopped buying it. ) I believe that most revolutions are started for freedom.

  11. People think revolution is necessary because the way they are ruled is not fair in their opinion. For example, the colonist did not like the way they were taxed, so they started revolution Anyone who starts a revolution has a goal, and that goal is to overthrow their ruler. Revolutions usually start when the government is treating the lower class poorly, such as supplying them with less food or water than they need. they could also start if the rulers are taxing the people more than they should.

  12. I belive a revolution is started for the same reason as a boycott, to try to change ways. As if to go for or against an action. Some examples were unfair taxes or poeple are treated unfairly.

  13. People think revoltion is necessary because if you don't do anything about an unfair law, then nothing will happen and you will still be treated unfairly. Revolutionists are trying to accomplish liberty, justice, and freedom. A law would be an example. Z.H.

  15. Groups of people think revolutions are necessary because with out revolutions lots of changes wouldn't have been made like freedom England or human rights. When people do revolutions they want to accomplish freedom, liberty, rights or other important reasons. the Fiscal Cliff could be a example of something that could lead up to a revolution.

  16. Z.H. well said but somthing can happen the people will get more poor and worsley treated. But if they actually do somthing it will most likely turn out good. So somthing will happen either way just not both good or both bad but bad and good.

  17. Taxes back then were crazy and out of control at one point. So they would either start a revalution or a boycott. they were probly trying to start getting lower taxes.
